The Butterfly Story

butterfly signWith his ad agency, Fred was searching for a different kind of Village logo. He did not approve of logos created by the ad agency.

Fred was inspired by a Nun who suggested the butterfly as a logo.

Why? She was visiting his Mom and knew Fred was in search of a unique logo. The Nun said, "The butterfly gave up its life as a caterpillar to become a butterfly."

She believed our Village mission was to bring folks from the busy caterpillar-city-life into BHV where folks could flutter around enjoying the natural wonder of trees, water and recreation. She also said that the butterfly had a spiritual message - where Jesus died in order to rise again.

This logo is carried through, not only on the Cliffside Drive sign, but also on the grassy area, just beyond the sign. Each year the flowers are replanted - a symbol of rebirth.

This flower representation of the butterfly was dedicated to Fred, by a Board resolution in 1976 and in 1990 Fred was honored by a plaqued rock, which also lives in the same area. Fred is the only Developer in the US to receive this honor from a Homeowners Association.
